MIB’s Monsoon Meet- Up 2017

Tajnim Imami

The lifestyle brand, MIB- Made in Bangladesh, just celebrated their second Monsoon Meet- Up at Moar, Banani 11. A gathering of talented artists and crafts makers with business savvy minds, the meet- up events of MIB has become a regular feature of Dhaka’s calendar of events. The brand seeks to provide a platform for people who are passionate about what they make and are looking for a space to showcase their talent. Held every two months and inspired by the different seasons, the meet- ups of MIB are a fresh, vibrant occasion full of wonderful ideas, design and decor items.

This year, the Monsoon Meet- Up brought together B’s Closett, Poter Bibi, Stellar, Newton’s Archive, Wearhouse, Muze, Hem’s and Hues and Butter- The Bakery. Hems and Hues is a social enterprise that works with the women affected by the Rana Plaza tragedy. Their skilfully made kantha and new clothing line, Ocean Blue, were on display for purchase at the event. True to their motto, ‘Life is too short to wear boring jewelry!’, B’s Closett showcased delicate yet exciting jewelleries full of youthful exuberance. From tiny little cat motifs on rings to dainty, crescent shaped hairpins, B’s Closett had some wonderful pieces to offer the Meet- Up visitors.

Dressed in birds, fish, flowers and musical notes motifs, the sari collection of Poter Bibi was beautiful in colour and print. Stellar returned to join the Meet- Up this season with their array of stationary and decor items. Colourful dream catchers fluttered in the background while  journals with artful caricature of Frida Kahlo or the Targaryen sigil of the Game of Thrones universe on the cover rested on the table alongside coasters, pencil bags, candles, notepads and laptop sleeves with equal, artful character.

Wearhouse presented their boho chic collection of kamiz, kurta and sari with whimsical motifs of rickshaw, truck, vespa, traffic lights, hot air balloons and much more. Muze, an accessory destination of the dapper man, had gorgeous collections of pocket squares, lapel pins, ties and socks. Newton’s Archive regaled the visitor’s senses with their delightfully scented candles of various themes and colours.

MIB also launched the new items in their Trendy collection during this event. Last but not least, Butter- The Bakery offered their delectable desserts that were the cherry on top of this brilliant congregation of people who presented their work and passion to share with customers and admirers.

Held at Moar, Banani 11 from August 17 to August 19, the Monsoon Meet- Up promoted great ideas and wonderfully made products for people with an eye for the unusual.
